As I have been to lazy to organize a new personal website since moving to Tokyo I maintain a few bits and pieces here. Be warned though that much of what you see here is largely out of date.

My Blog
For non academic updates on my life I keep a blog [here]. I have also recently decided to give this facebook thing a go, so might also occasionally post status updates there.
Research
I've been involved in a lot of different things over the last couple of years, but I seem to have settled down to the topics listed below.
Darwinian Models of Culture
The main focus of my Phd research is on generalized evolutionary theory and its applications to linguistic problems. Specifically I am working on a cultural theory of evolution built on Dawkins idea of memes. I will probably be writing a more detailed research outline over the next few weeks, but for now some people might be interested in one of my recent talks:

Language Contact and Change
Obviously related to the above.
Natural Language Processing Interfaces
Researchers are very good at building computer tools for working with natural human languages, but they are not always good at making them easy to use. I have been involved with the U-Compare project for a while now and am currently involved in the redesign of its interface. I am also considering another project with the aim of making open source data mining tools more accessible to general users.
